What Do you recommend for slug loads? I know you can get some cheap ones for 5 bucks a box do those work fine or is it worth the extra money to get more expensive loads?
Thanks;

It depends what you are shooting them out of. If you have a smoothbore, cheap foster-type slugs are about your only choice; elongated and sabot slugs need spin for stabilization.
If you have a rifled barrel, you need to buy several different slugs and see how they shoot out of your shotgun. WARNING: a long session at the range with a shotgun and slugs is brutal.
My recommendations would be:
1) Winchester Platinum Tip
2) Hornady SST
3) Remington Buckhammer
4) Anything else you find
As always, your mileage may vary.

I have always shot a Rifled barrel..... i came from a state where that's ALL the firearm you can hunt deer with
Having said that.... i've had my BEST luck with Lightfields....
However Federals sabots and the Hornady's work well too....
I will be picking up a few boxes of a few diff brands this week to see what works best with my 870 this year... |

| On the other side of the table for a smooth bore go smaller for better accuracy, I typically use a 23/4" 1 oz or 7/8 oz. slug. Also try different brands some do shoot better out of different guns. |

| In smooth bores, Rottweil-Brenekie (sp?) are the best out there. For rifled barrels, then the premium sabots. But just like with rifles, each gun "likes" it brand, meaning will shoot one brand and load much better than the others. I bought 3 brands, and ested to see whcih my rifled barrel "liked" thje best. |

I shoot a Winchester 1300 SpeedPump with a winchester rifled barrel. the barrel is soldered to the receiver and anchored permanently. with a Bushnell Legend 2-7x36 scope, mounted directly to the receiver.
my preferance - in order
1. Remington Corelokt Ultra. 12 ga 2.75, 385 grain, sabot
2. Winchester Partition Gold, 12 ga, 2.75, 385 grain sabot
3. Hornady SST
4. If i had to go with a cheap slug, it be the Brenneke KO's for rifled/smoothbore. _________________
